Work continues at the Bone Lake South Nature Area

In late May 2026, the majority of the perimeter fence was replaced using Conservation Partners Legacy grant funds. The new wildlife-friendly fence helps separate the Nature Area from neighboring private properties while still allowing wildlife to move safely through the area.

It also improves the appearance of the site, directs visitors to designated access points, and helps reduce unauthorized access to sensitive natural areas. The fencing project is another important step toward preparing the Nature Area for expanded public use and future improvements. It also helps pave the way for construction of a public parking lot along 228th Street North, across from Mallard Avenue North, which will provide a safer and more organized access point for visitors.

The remaining sections of fence are expected to be replaced by late summer as additional grant funding becomes available. Once completed, the project will create a more defined boundary around the Nature Area while continuing to support habitat protection and public access management. If you have an questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to the District via email or by phone.
