The burn will occur in late October or early November, weather permitting. This burn will be conducted by a contractor, Edge Ecosystems, using trained and qualified personnel. The burn plan has been reviewed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and the contractor will adhere to strict burning condition requirements including wind direction and speed, temperature, and humidity. The burn will be conducted in a manner to minimize impacts to traffic on North Shore Trail, and to the surrounding properties.

The purpose of this burn is to control invasive species, improve native vegetation on the site, and improve habitat quality. The nature area will be closed to the public during the prescribed burn.

This burn is part of ongoing restoration work that has been conducted in partnership with Great River Greening with the goal of improving the habitat quality of the area. This work has been funded by the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources through the State’s Natural Resources Trust Fund.
