Overview
Comfort Lake is the third largest lake in the District and has a very large drainage area. It is a general development lake with one public boat launch and is heavily used for recreation. Comfort Lake is the outlet of the District with water entering from the southeast via Little Comfort Lake and the west via the Sunrise River. Water exits Comfort Lake, and the CLFLWD, on the north end of the lake via the Sunrise River and eventually flows to the St. Croix.
Water Quality
In 2002 Comfort Lake was placed on the State’s Impaired Waters List due to high nutrients. Over the past several years the CLFLWD has implemented several water quality projects to address the excess nutrients, such as phosphorus, entering the lake. These projects have resulted in a phosphorus load reduction of 825lb/yr, or 77% of the District’s goal for Comfort Lake. Comfort Lake has had a statistically significant improving trend in secchi depth since 2011 and is close to meeting the 10-year (2031) District goal for phosphorus.
