Comfort Lake – Forest Lake Watershed District Awarded State Grant

The Comfort Lake–Forest Lake Watershed District (CLFLWD) has received a $99,000 Water Quality & Storage grant from the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources to study ways to reduce flooding and strengthen the watershed’s long-term resiliency.

With support from its District Engineer, Emmons & Olivier Resources, CLFLWD will conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and develop early (feasibility-level) designs for potential flood mitigation projects. The District will also collaborate with local cities, counties, state agencies, and other partners to evaluate which projects are practical and effective.

Work is scheduled to begin in spring 2026 and will be completed by December 31, 2027.

This effort will lay the groundwork for applying for additional grants to fund final design and construction. Because flood resiliency projects are complex and costly, they will require grant funding and will take several years to fully implement.  CLFLWD is focusing on project locations that are strategically positioned in areas most vulnerable to flooding
